My Neighbor Totoro

Today I’ll be working on a very special piece of artwork for a fundraising event this Fall.  For this event, local artists are asked to paint a wooden wine box that will then be auctioned off to raise funds for the Zebra Coalition.  I am honored and humbled to be one of the artists contributing a wine box.  There is no specific theme, so I decided I would create something as cute and as joyful as I possibly could.

I’m finding my inspiration in the film “My Neighbor Totoro” by brilliant artist and masterful filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki.  I saw this film for the first time not long ago and was overwhelmed by the beauty of the animation and the incredibly genuine and pure themes of family and friendship.

I will post when the wine box is completed and I’ll post more information on the event itself as the time draws near.
