Cornell Fine Arts Museum

What a delight it was to explore the Cornell Fine Arts Museum last week with a group of members from the Winter Garden Art Association!  In the hopes of offering more art-based outings for WGAA members, we decided to experiment with art meet ups.  This was our first attempt and it went splendidly!

We met at CFAM on the campus of Rollins College to view their current (and free!) exhibition, “Towards Impressionism: Landscape Painting from Corot to Monet.”  Instead of a regular docent-led tour, I offered my services as WGAA’s resident art historian to be the “human audio guide.”  After taking time to look at the artwork, we had a group discussion that included some really wonderful observations.  I also provided a fun “trivia sheet” with questions that could be answered through our discussion.

In discussing the differences between Romanticism and Impressionism, we also took time to look for the “seeds” of Modern Art in a few of the Impressionist’s pieces.  All in all, it was quite a wonderful experience!
