It is time for the 5th Annual Wine Box Art Show!

The owners and operators of The Barefoot Spa here in Orlando, FL, have once again partnered with local artists for the annual fundraiser to benefit the Zebra Coalition.  In its first four years, this event has raised over $26,000 for the LGBTQ+ youth in our Central Florida community.  However, 2020 is a different animal altogether and the Zebra Coalition needs our help more than ever.

All the artwork submitted by local artists is currently on view at The Barefoot Spa and bids can be placed on the artwork in a silent auction format. The final night of this year’s silent auction event will take place at Quantum Leap Winery on Thursday, October 15th but you don’t have to wait! In addition to placing bids now, you can even buy artwork outright.  To make a bid on a piece of artwork or to buy a piece outright, please contact The Barefoot Spa directly and know that every penny goes to the Zebra Coalition.

I am very honored to be one of the artists participating in this year’s event. Because 2020 has been chaos and there are no rules, artists were allowed to create whatever type of artwork they pleased. Instead of a wine box, I contributed a pair of paintings on canvas.

This set is titled “Love x Infinity” and is an homage to the work of Yayoi Kusama. Both paintings are acrylic on canvas and each canvas measures 10″ x 10″.

I am writer and artist with a degree in art history who loves to talk to people about art. I have spent the last seven years building up The Wandering Art Historian “brand” as a way to connect with people who want to learn more about art. I give lectures and presentations and teach classes and host book club discussions with a creative or artistic connection. I also write about local artists, events, museums, and exhibitions to promote the arts in Central Florida. In 2021, I had a creative crisis. I struggled with authenticity in the art making process. I decided to make myself vulnerable and find out what a real, genuine Adrienne H. Lee artwork would look like. The process was challenging and emotional and revelatory. I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
